The Asparagus Festival

On Saturday we had the pleasure of going to Stockton to enjoy the Asparagus Festival. I know it sounds weird, but it was lots of fun. It's a really big event up here and there were all kinds of neat activities to entertain the kiddos. Mason started his day with a refreshing jaunt through the sprinkler zone. Then he headed over to the ride area where he took part in the bounce house. Anyone scared? Well, don't be. There was a toddler size bounce house just for the little guys. He had so much fun jumping and falling down. There was a lot of jumping, but mostly falling. That worked up quite an appetite, so he decided to try the local specialty, deep fried asparagus. No, wait, that was just us. He opted out for a snooze in the stroller to regain his strength for what would surely be the highlight of his busy day, the pony ride. Just in case anyone was wondering, fried asparagus tastes the same as fried zucchini...yummy.
The pictures below don't begin to convey Mason's excitement to see a pony, or dog as he called them. As he ran up to the ponies he pointed and waived his arms, yelling, "Dog, dog, dog!" Then when he reached the fence that separated him from the "dogs" he pointed and became so excited that he actually started shaking. I don't think I've ever seen him excited to the point of convulsions before. So, I gladly got in line for the token while my Mom waited in line for the pony ride with Mason. When we got to the front of the line, Mason, the smallest rider, was given the biggest pony. He sat stone faced as the child toting ponies circled around for the billionth time of the morning. He was now only as amused as his pony, which was not much. When the ride was over, the old cowboy plucked him from his new friend's back and handed him off to us. His excitement now returned. He lunged back at the ponies and whined desperately. As we walked away, he pointed and began shaking again. Yes, he had a wonderfully busy day celebrating, well...asparagus.
